The duo Maria Lopez & Javier de Riba have just returned from Japan, where they created a photoluminescent mural on the facade of a building in Tokyo’s Yotsuya district. The fa\u00e7ade presented a number of obstacles. <\/p>\n\n

The idea was to offer another take on the Hoshinomori concept, “the guardian of the stars”. In the daytime version, the adorable guardian’s hand opens onto a star. At dusk, the guardian of the stars reveals a new face framed by a shower of stars. Her character expresses all the tenderness she has to offer her environment. <\/p>\n\n

The Reskate duo wanted to pay subtle homage to Japanese culture through the shape of the star. This star, typical of shipp\u014dtsunagi or marutsunagi, two traditional Japanese motifs, symbolizes infinite connection and balance. And the shape of her hair is a nod to the Great Wave of Kanagawa, by the renowned Hokusai. <\/p>\n\n

Maria & Javier never cease to surprise us with their fresh take on the traditions of today’s civilizations.<\/p>\n\n
