Daniel Buren is a major figure in international contemporary art. Renowned for his site-specific work, he conceives his creations in interaction with the places they occupy. His "visual tool", alternating bands of color and white 8.7 cm wide, became his artistic signature.

From the 1960s onwards, Daniel Buren adopted a minimalist approach, reducing painting to its “zero degree”. By co-founding the BMPT group, he rejects academic conventions to highlight the importance of the exhibition space. His works transform the spaces they inhabit, whether museums or public spaces.

Emblematic achievements
Among his landmark creations, Les Deux Plateaux (1986), better known as the “columns of Buren”, in the main courtyard of the Palais Royal in Paris, illustrate his interactive approach. He has also left his mark on prestigious venues such as the Grand Palais in Paris (Monumenta, 2012), the Guggenheim Museum in New York, and public spaces in Naples, Seoul and Malaga.
