Don’t delay if you want to discover Wang Du’s striking installation at the Château de Pierrefonds. This exhibition is part of “Biens Venus”, a program of events organized by the CMN (Centre des Monuments Nationaux) and the CNAP (Centre National des Arts Plastiques).
Wang Du is a Chinese visual artist from Wuhan. After spending nine months in Chinese prisons, he moved to France in 1990. In this new, more open environment, he humorously transforms press images into 3D sculptures.
The 12-metre-long “Parade” installation, set to a soundtrack of revolutionary songs, illustrates the events of Tian’anmen in 1989, when students, intellectuals and citizens demonstrated for greater political freedom. The Chinese government’s repression was extremely brutal. Using press photos, Wang Du reproduced figures and military equipment in resin to create an extraordinary scene reminiscent of the television images that shocked the world.
This contemporary installation echoes the destruction of the first Pierrefonds fortress, in 1617, and allows monumental contemporary art to resonate with an oversized work of French heritage.
On view until April 5, 2026 at Château de Pierrefonds.
